Radical Roundtable: KAJA & Abortion in Tennessee
The Radical Roundtable is an opportunity to connect with your neighbors and discuss topics around mutual aid, solidarity, and radical solutions for collective liberation in our community. We meet the first Sunday of the month, starting with an optional reading hour from 1:30-2:30 pm and then a presentation and/or discussion from 2:30-4:30 pm.
Childcare is provided, including activities/discussion for older youth. Children who can and want to participate in the Roundtable are welcome to attend, as are lap babies!
Kicking off 2026 the Knoxville Abortion Justice Alliance will talk about the current state of abortion in Tennessee, needs of the community and KAJA’s work, and what you can do to help de-stigmatize abortion and help our local community.
Below are readings for the Roundtable; the longest reading includes an audio option alongside the article and we will provide audio for the shorter two readings prior to the Roundtable meeting.
- Doctors Warned Her Pregnancy Could Kill Her. Then Tennessee Outlawed Abortion. (30 min read, audio option included with the website)
- I’ve spent years working as an OB-GYN in Tennessee. These abortion stories still stick with me. (5 min read)
- Abortion laws by state: Tennessee (2 min read)
Optional reading: “Our hands are tied: abortion bans and hesitant medicine” (37 min read) –
A somewhat dense scientific analysis of the impact of vague laws on time to treatment. We won’t cover this in our discussion, but offer it in case anyone is captivated and wants to do a deeper dive on the medical impact of abortion bans.
